If your flight is delayed or your arrival time changes, let MTL Rent a Car know right away. While our Meet & Greet service is complimentary, good communication helps us ensure your handover goes perfectly on time.
You’ll also need to gather a few essential documents before you arrive. Make sure you have a valid driver’s license (held for at least two years), your passport or ID card, your booking voucher or confirmation, and the payment (credit) card you’ll use for your deposit or remaining balance. MTL accepts Visa, MasterCard, and American Express. We also accept cash and debit cards, though deposit requirements can vary. That’s why it’s always best to confirm the method of payment and conditions that come with it in advance.
After you’ve landed, cleared passport control, and collected your luggage, head toward the Arrivals Hall. You won’t find an MTL counter inside the terminal because we provide a personal Meet & Greet service instead.

Once you’ve met your agent, they’ll guide you to the nearby parking area where your vehicle is ready. Here, you’ll complete a few quick formalities. Present your documents, settle any remaining payment, and the agent will process the security deposit - typically a hold on your card or a refundable cash deposit. Before signing the rental agreement, take a moment to review the key details: insurance coverage, liability amounts, and fuel policy (MTL operates a Full-to-Full policy, meaning you return the car with a full tank). If you’ve arranged any extras like cross-border travel or an additional driver, your agent will confirm those too.
Before hitting the road, it’s important to do a quick vehicle inspection. Together with your MTL agent, walk around the car and check for any existing scratches, dents, or marks - no matter how small. Make sure all existing damage is recorded on the check-out form that both you and the agent will sign.
It’s also smart to take a few photos or a short video on your phone, showing the car’s exterior, interior, mileage, and fuel level. It only takes a minute and ensures peace of mind when you return the car later.
Your agent will also show you where to find the mandatory safety equipment required by Montenegrin law - a warning triangle, reflective vest, and first-aid kit. These are always provided in every MTL vehicle.

Make sure you know how to operate the headlights, which must be kept on (low beam) at all times while driving in Montenegro, even during the day. If you’re driving a manual transmission and are used to an automatic, take a moment to get comfortable with the gears and pedals. Finally, confirm which fuel type the car uses - petrol or diesel, since MTL requires the car to be returned with a full tank.
Once everything feels right, you’ll receive your keys and your signed rental agreement copy. The agent will direct you toward the airport exit, and from there, you’re ready to begin your journey.
